This e-bulletin is the first of a series of regular fortnightly e-bulletins which will be produced during the Capital Clean Up Campaign between 8th March - 15th June 2007. The campaign e-bulletin will provide you with all the latest news on the Capital Clean Up and will highlight the range of activities taking place over the next three months. The e-bulletin can also be sued to publicise your own events. You can e-mail you're activities to capitalcleanup@encams.org detailing the date, location, description, number of people involved and contact details. These events will also be publicised on the Capital Clean Up website.

Thames 21 and Southwark come together to launch campaign

The London Borough of Southwark and Thames 21 will be working together on Thursday 8th March 2007 to launch Day One of the Capital Clean Up Campaign. Thames 21 will be organising a foreshore clean up of the Thames in the morning whilst Southwark will be working with a local primary school as part of the authority's successful Junior Streetleaders and Eco Schools Programme. The Southwark Safer Neighbourhood Teams and London Probation will also be working with Southwark to deliver a Community Payback Clean Up. This is where offenders on Unpaid Work orders undertaking work for the benefit of the community. A sentence of Unpaid Work is often ordered by magistrates for offences such as anti-social behaviour, vandalism and graffiti.

London Better Together Day

On 15 June London Better Together will invite every business, to take action to make London a better place to live and do business.

Business volunteers will have the opportunity to work in teams with colleagues and clients to make London a better place to live and work. The aim of the day is get as many employees as possible volunteering throughout London on a variety of opportunities including painting, decorating and gardening, sports challenges and Enterprise days (helping young people with CV's, careers advice and interview skills.)

This year the cost to take part is £25 per head + VAT (with a minimum charge of £250 + VAT). Please note this is an administration charge for taking part on the day, and any materials or refreshments required are at the discretion of the company.

Capital Standards stubs out smoking related litter

The Capital Standards Programme will be engaging with ENCAMS smoking related litter campaign in the next few months in an effort to reduce the amounts of smoking related litter across London through a targeted poster campaign, and the distribution of stubbis. These are small pocket sized wallets which are used to contain cigarettes until the user reaches a bin.
