Capital Clean Up ends on a high

The Capital Clean Up Campaign ended on a high last week (15th June) as numerous events took place on the final day of the 100 day campaign.

In the London Borough of Camden officers joined police and members of Community Payback at the St. Silas Estate Action Day. Officers and volunteers removed graffiti, litter, weeds and dumped waste from around the estate. Whilst Safer Neighbourhood Teams were present to offer community safety advice.

Across the London the London Borough of Wandsworth launched a significant initiative on the Totterdown Fields Estate in answer to residents concerns regarding litter and flytipping on the estate. Officers begun to undertake a number of actions to improve locale environmental quality in the area including: leafleting all premises; erecting "no flytipping" signs on lampposts and undertaking enforcement action.

In Ealing a 200-strong partnership task force hit the streets on both 14 and 15th June to rid Acton of crime and grime. The multi-agency team were busy cleaning up the area, educating the public and taking tough enforcement against those responsible for anti-social behaviour and crime.

Activities included: Graffiti clean ups; Fly-tip clean ups; Litter picking; Vehicle tax checks; Road show with stall; Fitting tamper proof tax discs to residents cars; High visibility police presence - stop and search; Truancy checks and Commercial waste agreement checks

The last day of the campaign also saw the last day of another successful London Sustainability Weeks Fortnight and London Better Together Day take place which involved businesses taking action to make London a better place to live and do business. Business volunteers were involved in a variety of opportunities including painting, decorating and gardening, sports challenges and Enterprise days.
