The Capital Standards Programme received a major boost today from the Rt Hon David Miliband the government minister responsible for Communities and Local Government.
In a letter addressed to Joe Tavernier (Chair, Capital Standards Programme) the Minister expresses his interest in hearing about the numerous successes of the Capital Standards Programme since it was established in 2002.
Additionally the Minister highlights the improvements in cleansing standards which have taken place since the establishment of the programme noting that 'It is a credit to the partnership approach being taken in London that cleanliness standards have improved'.
Further support was forthcoming in relation to the highly regarded Capital Standards Street Academy which has trained over 300 enforcement officers and the ever popular London Schools Environment Award which, this year, saw a record number of entries.
'Hundreds of enforcement officers have been through the training academy and thousands of children are involved through the London Schools Environment Awards'.
In concluding his letter the Minister highlights the vital work undertaken by London boroughs and their partners to create a cleaner, safer and greener environment and wishes the programme every success as the Capital Standards programme continues to take a comprehensive approach to managing the public realm and promoting a cleaner, safer greener capital city.
