The Capital Standards Annual Report for 2005/6 shows that Capital Standards is continuing to drive the agenda for change in the area of local environmental quality across London.
The continued success of the programme has been acknowledged by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Tony Blair, in the London's Challenge for 2012 Building on Success Report. Whilst the Rt Hon David Miliband has commented that:
'It is a credit to the [Capital Standards] partnership approach being taken in London that cleanliness standards have improved, hundreds of enforcement officers have been through the training academy and thousands of children are involved through the London Schools Environment Award'
The report details the continuation and development of a range of Capital Standards initiatives including the Street Academy Programme, local environmental quality surveys and the London Schools Environment Awards scheme.
Furthermore, for the first time, the report also includes details of the Capital Standards business planning process and details of a new three year contract between the Capital Standards Steering Group and ENCAMS to continue to develop the programme until at least 2009.
