The Capital Standards seminar series turned its attention to partnership working between local authorities and Transport for London at a seminar which took place on the 22nd November 2006. The seminar also saw the launch of a document entitled "Local Environmental Quality Management of London's roads" which outlines the legislation controlling the responsibilities of Local Authorities and Transport for London.
The seminar was opened by Richard Bradbury (Vice Chair of Capital Standards) before Dr Kevin Golding-Williams from Capital Standards explained the background and developed of "Local Environmental Quality Management of London’s roads". Nick Atkinson from Transport for London then presented on the partnership work currently being undertaken by Transport for London with local authorities.
Breakout groups of delegates discussed their experiences of partnership working and how to enhance existing relationships or develop new ones. This enabled delegates to network with colleagues from other organisations in an informal environment.
The resulting feedback from the breakout groups highlighted the importance of communication in improving local environmental quality between different stakeholders. The concept of designing out local environmental quality issues through the provision of low maintenance area for cleansing was also raised as were issues around licensing and enforcement of street furniture.
The Capital Standards seminar programme consists of three seminars a year, and provides a forum for discussion between the Capital Standards membership on relevant issues relating to local environmental quality. The seminars comprise a mix of presentations, group discussions and networking in an informal environment.
