In 2006 the Prime Minister, through the London's Challenge for 2012 – Building on Success document, set Capital Standards the challenge of organising a 100 day clean up campaign to drive up standards of local environmental quality across the Cleaner, Safer, Greener agenda.
Capital Standards, today, has announced plans to organize that 100 day clean up campaign between March-June 2007. The aim of the campaign is to get people involved in making improvements to their local environment and taking longer term ownership and pride in their area. The wider objectives of the campaign will be:
The campaign is being co-ordinated by an advisory group made up of representatives from the cleaner, safer and greener sectors in London including local authorities, ENCAMS, Greater London Authority, Government Office for London, Housing Corporation, London Councils, London Wildlife Trust, Business in the Community, Thames 21, Metropolitan Police and Love London.
The campaign will include special projects delivered by local authorities in addition to events organized through agencies across the cleaner, safer, greener spectrum in the voluntary and community sectors. Events will include community clean ups, habitat restoration or regeneration initiatives.
This is the first year of what is anticipated will become an annual campaign leading up to and beyond the 2012 Olympic Games. This would be similar to the project delivered in Manchester since the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
ENCAMS will be hosting a reception at City Hall on the 7th February 2007 for invited strategic groups and organizations to allow them to find out more about the campaign and how these groups can play a part in delivering this exciting campaign across London. London’s Living room will provide the backdrop to the event and speakers include the Minister for London –Jim Fitzpatrick MP.
Regular updates will be posted on this site regarding the campaign.
