Thames Clean-up

People on the Thames

19 September 2007

Do your bit for the environment: get a sun tan and tone your muscles! The NMM Thames clean-up in June 2007 saw over 50 volunteers collect 1.5 tonnes of rubbish from the riverbank at Greenwich. Join the team again as the Museum and environmental charity Thames21 join forces to clear up more litter from the Thames over four days in September. Get involved and make a positive contribution to the local environment by sinking into the mud and digging up plastic bags and other non-biodegradable items, to help reduce levels of litter and encourage us all to consider how much waste we generate and how we discard it.

Thames21 is the leading environmental charity working with communities to bring London's waterways to life. They provide health and safety cover, ‘wellies’, gloves, socks and spades. The meeting point each day is Newcastle Draw Dock, off Saunders Ness Road, E14 - five minutes walk from Island Gardens DLR and from the north exit of the Greenwich foot tunnel. Volunteer for a day or two or join the team for the four-day workout.
